Upcoming 2017 Nissan Pathfinder design review

The Pathfinder is one of Nissan’s longest-serving nameplates, having been launched in 1986 as a two-door, off-road-themed sport-utility derived from the brand’s Hardbody pickup. With its switch to a four-door body and then, for 2013, the move to a passenger-car platform (the Altima’s) with a transverse engine and front-wheel drive (all-wheel drive is optional), the Pathfinder pretty well traces the trajectory of the genus sport-utility in America. This once rugged vehicle has evolved into a soft, rounded carpool-mobile, no longer tasked with taming the jungle—as the original version did in its launch ad campaign—but with toting kids to school and sports. Four years into the Pathfinder’s latest iteration, Nissan appears to have had a tinge of regret at turning its SUV into the four-wheeled equivalent of mom jeans and, with the mid-cycle update for the 2017 model year, attempts to walk it back a bit. But only a bit.Honestly,I think it couldn't be more dated than it already is,its about time Nissan started pushing a little more of their Z or GTR dna into these vehicles.

Saudi Prince Buys Bugatti Chiron Show Car And Vision Gran Turismo Concept

A Saudi Prince has just been announced as the buyer of the Bugatti Chiron show car from Geneva and most notably, the one-offVision Gran Turismo Concept car unveiled last year.

Prince Badr bin Saud is said to be worth upwards of $21 billion so obviously had the money to purchase these unique creations. Bugatti confirmed that Saud submitted “the most convincing bid” to buy the pair, inevitably a figure well in excess of $5 million.

We know that both the Chiron show car from this year's Geneva Motor Show and the Vision Gran Turismo concept car from Frankfurt 2015 run and are installed with the firm's staple quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine. Beyond that however, their performance capabilities are unknown.

Development of the Chiron is continuing so inevitably, Saud's Chiron isn't a production-ready example and is unlikely to be used as anything more than a design piece. As pieces of French art go, it is up there with the very best however.

The extent of Saud's car collection isn't known but we'd expect these two to be joining dozens of other exclusively and valuable automobiles.

Just yesterday, it was confirmed that the Chiron and Vision Gran Turismo concept will be displayed together for the first time at next month's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. It isn't yet known if Saud's Chiron will be the example displayed or if Bugatti will instead roll-out another one of its prototypes.

F1 2016 is a Formula One nerd's dream

Last year’s F1 2015 felt great to drive, but series fans complained that it was a bit of a flimsy package compared to bumper, feature-stuffed F1 games of yore. Based on what we’ve seen so far of F1 2016, it’s the gaming equivalent of a bouquet of roses and a box of chocolates. Codemasters is clearly very sorry indeed.
Take the new career mode, which is almost sarcastically in-depth. You start by picking a team and you’re deposited directly into their swish paddock hospitality unit to conduct your affairs. Bigger teams have bigger expectations, so if you choose a top squad you’ll have to deliver the silverware, lest you get unceremoniously hoofed out, Kvyat style.
Other fan requests that will be satisfied in F1 2016 include a playable formation lap, fiddly manually controlled starts and the return of the safety car. Yes, F1 gamers will happily drive around in a queue behind a road car without overtaking for three to five laps if it’ll make the whole enterprise more realistic.
Perhaps most astonishing of all, Codemasters has somehow managed to give us a reason to complete free practice sessions rather than skipping straight to Quali, like we have in every previous F1 game. Banging in laps during practice now involves completing challenges that will help your team work out a tyre strategy and earn you resource points that can be spent on research and development of improved components.

George Foreman's Lamborghini Diablo VT is up for sale

At the peak of his powers, he was one of the scariest and most feared boxers in heavyweight history. Fitting then, that the former two-time heavyweight champion of the world and one of the most famous fighters ever, chose a rather fearsome Lamborghini as his personal car. We’re talking of course, about George Foreman. Big George. The man who beat the (then) previously unbeaten Joe Frazier. The man who beat future hall-of-famer Ken Norton. And of course, the man who memorably fought the late, great Muhammad Ali in ‘The Rumble in the Jungle’ (he lost that one). And, um, the man who put his name to a grill. But we digress. The Lamborghini Diablo; not exactly a shrinking violet itself. Foreman picked it up in 1997 after his final fight, and is the only registered owner from new. Since ‘97, the car has covered just 1,907 miles, making it practically brand new. It’s the VT Roadster - which means four-wheel-drive and a removable carbonfibre roof panel - and sports a new front bumper, brake cooling ducts, and new headlights over the earlier models. It’s bright red, sports a tan leather interior, and of course, a 5.7-litre V12 and nearly 500bhp.The estimated auction price? Between $285,000 and $325,000.

Honda hopes NSX halo effect will give automaker a boost in Europe

Honda hopes for a halo effect boost in Europe from its NSX supercar. The 187,000 euro ($206,000) NSX is a "branding exercise and also a showcase for engineering excellence," a Honda Europe spokesman said.
Honda is a low-volume brand in Europe with a 1.1 percent market share and unit sales of 88,242 in the EU and EFTA in the first half, according to data from industry association ACEA.
The NSX will not make much of an impression on that volume with European annual sales of just 200 but it will raise the automaker's profile and help to draw customers toward the rest of the company's range, executives say.
The NSX shows that Honda engineers have the expertise to develop something more exotic than volume cars such as the Jazz subcompact and Civic compact models, according to company officials.
About 60 of the annual 200 forecast European sales for the NSX will be in the UK. The UK weighting reflects the fact that the country takes around a third of all Honda's European sales.
The new NSX marks Honda's return to the supercar market after the brand stopped production of the previous NSX in 2005. The new model is built in Ohio, U.S, instead of Japan and has a hybrid powertrain that uses three electric motors to assist a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine.
The car was benchmarked against rivals such as the Audi R8, Porsche 911 and the McLaren 12C. The mainly aluminum space frame chassis is three times as stiff as the R8 and Ferrari 458 to improve handling, said Nick Robinson, the NSX's vehicle dynamics project leader.
Robinson said the car accelerated quicker from a standstill to 100kph (62mph) than a Porsche 911 Turbo, which goes from 0 to 100kph in 3.0 seconds but he declined to give the NSX's exact time, saying only it was less than 3.0 seconds.
The NSX is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 with three electric motors helping to boost acceleration for a total power output of 581hp. The V-6 engine makes 505 hp. The rear electric motor has an output of 48 hp, while the two front motors each make 37 hp.
Honda said it couldn't claim the car makes 629 hp overall because the electric motors are designed to deliver peak power below that of the V-6. "How do you describe multiple power sources with a single power number? It's becoming more difficult to do," Robinson said.
The NSX's rear motor is attached the V-6 engine's crankshaft to provide 'infill' power at lower speeds before the turbochargers are activated. The front two motors are not connected to the V-6 engine but keep power flowing to the front wheels during gear changes.
The motors also alter the amount of power going to each wheel, a process called torque vectoring. This can make the car quicker through track corners than key rivals and helps to overcome the extra weight of the hybrid powertrain compared to key non-hybrid rivals, Robinson said.
The drivetrain is mated to a nine-speed twin-clutch gearbox. The engine block and head are built by Cosworth in the UK.
The NSX weighs between 1,763 kg and 1,801kg depending on specifications. The European version is heavier partly because of EU safety regulations that require a pop-up hood to reduce pedestrian injury.
The Audi R8 is lighter with its weight starting at 1,555kg. "After a while the physics of lower weight and more power [in rivals] beat the NSX but in the right corner the NSX is faster," Robinson said. The hybrid system makes the power more accessible away from the track, he said.
He said NSX buyers would likely be Porsche 911 owners wanting to take the "next step." They will be interested in the technology, which brings hybrid power to a supercar at a much lower cost than the million-dollar-plus McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari hybrids. Said Robinson: "We were almost developing in parallel to them, but now this car is available for two tenths of the price."
To reduce weight on the NSX, Honda has developed a way to cast aluminum to create light but strong joining 'nodes' within the front and rear chassis sections that won’t shatter in a crash. Called ablation casting and similar to forging, Honda says it will investigate using this method in other models.
Fast facts
Launch date: Autumn (Europe)
Lowest CO2 emissions: 228g/km
What's good: Electric-boosted acceleration is astonishing, very quick through corners, very responsive in Track mode but relaxing in Quiet.
What's bad: Graphics and usability of the infotainment system are below class best, large wing mirrors make the car very wide at 2217mm.

Tesla Pickup Truck ???

Tesla’s announcement that it’s working on an electric pickup truck has the automotive world buzzing about what such a vehicle might look like. After all, Tesla changed the world of electric cars with the Model S. What might it be able to do for the electric truck? Our colleagues at Truck Trend took a stab at envisioning what the Tesla pickup might look like and imagining what innovations it might bring to the truck segment.
Truck Trend speculates that the pickup will be called Model U for “utility.” With the recent announcement of a Model Y small crossover, that would fit in with Tesla’s nomenclature, spelling “U S3XY.” The renderings show the Tesla face on what appears to be a traditional midsize pickup body, but there’s more than meets the eye with this fantasy EV truck. One of the highlights will be the front trunk or “frunk.” Here, you’ll find generous storage space just like the Model S, but also multiple USB, 12V, and 120V outlets for power. Additionally, there will be a space to store wet/dirty items with a drain plug for easy cleaning and drainage. Drop-in accessories could include charging docks for cordless tools and organization trays.
Because the Model U doesn’t need a driveshaft, relying instead on in-wheel motors, the bed will be much deeper than those of other trucks available today. It will also have plenty of power outlets and an optional in-bed air compressor for connecting air tools, blowing off dust, and airing up tires. In the top of the bed floor would be an auxiliary battery pack good for an extra 100 miles when towing. It could be charged at home via Tesla’s Powerwall or through the Model U’s solar-panel-covered roof and optional solar tonneau top. The battery would slide in and lock into a bed floor rail system.
Truck Trend estimates the Model U would offer power and torque on par with the heavy-duty diesels available today, which can produce as much as 900 lb-ft. Towing capacity would be 10,000 pounds, and acceleration from 0-60 mph would take 5 seconds. As for range, our sister publication expects the Tesla truck to come with a base 120-kW-hr battery pack, with a 160 kW-hr unit serving as the top option. Pricing will start at $60,000 and go all the way up to $150,000 for the top-trim model.

Alfa Giulia Driving Dynamics

The Alfa Romeo Giulia has better driving dynamics than rivals such as the BMW 3 series because the standard models were derived from the car's Quadrifoglio performance version rather than the other way around, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Chief Technology Officer Harald Wester said.
"All our competitors develop the base model and when everything is done they squeeze in the top model," Wester said. He cited the Giulia's lightweight carbon-fiber propshaft as an example of how all variants have top-of-the-line specifications. The propshaft is common to the whole Giulia range.
The midsize sedan is the first model to be built on Alfa's new rear-wheel-drive Giorgio platform that will underpin a family of eight models that are key to the struggling brand's revival. The mainly steel Giorgio platform is made lighter using aluminum for the suspension turrets, fenders, doors and front suspension.
The Quadrifoglio has a carbon fiber roof and hood. Philippe Krief, Alfa's chief engineer for the Giorgio platform, said: "We wanted a high-powered car with low fuel consumption and a ride as comfortable and quiet as a limousine." Krief said the Giulia is the lightest car in its class at 1,374kg for the 180hp 2.2-liter diesel version with a manual transmission.
The lightness means Alfa can use a cheaper lean NOx trap to clean diesel emissions to Euro 6 standards. All versions except the Quadrifoglio can be sold with all-wheel drive, but executives gave no date for its introduction.
Fast facts:
Engines (Europe): The Alfa Romeo Giulia offers a Ferrari-derived 2.9-liter V-6 gasoline (for Quadrifoglio variants), a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo and a 2.2-liter diesel.
Technology: The Giulia’s new electromechanical braking system is a world first, Alfa says. It makes record-breaking stopping distances possible: from 100 to 0 kph in 38.5 meters for the Giulia and in 32 meters for the Quadrifoglio version.
What's good: The Giulia offers superb dynamics and ride comfort and a premium-looking interior.
What's bad: Some electronic glitches during the press launch put a question mark against build quality.
Launch date: June (Europe); October (U.S.); 2017 (China)
Base price: 35,500 euros (Italy)
Where built: Cassino, Italy
Annual sales forecast: 100,000 (2017)
Lowest CO2 emissions: 99g/km (180hp manual diesel)
Main rivals: BMW 3 series, Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C class, Jaguar XE
